On Sunday , after a bout of flu’ and feeling a little better, I decided to have a little drive onto Cannock Chase to make me feel better. It was a glorious day and the sun was at full blast and I was not in a rush to get anywhere. The road was completely free of any car and I happily toddled off up Pye Green Road and then into Brindley Road to drive onto the Chase.
Just before the White sign with a black line through it (National speed limit-60mph), I noticed a car and a man standing next to it with what looked like a camera on a tripod, a further 10 yards away was a sign to say that the speed limit had been reduced to 40mph. I was amused at the fact that I could drive at 60 mph for 10 yards! And at the sheer stupidity of the mentality of the brainbox who thought that one up! I thought no more of the man with the camera as he did not have a uniform on but a yellow fluorescent jacket and I continued on my way and marvelled at how beautiful the chase was. I enjoyed my drive.
4 days later I got a notice of intended prosecution for doing 40mph in a 30mph zone

Now heres the crux of the matter: Pye Green Road veers off at a mini roundabout where Rose Hill joins it and then carries on till it becomes Brindley Road at the junction/crossroads at Broadhurst Green. There are NO signs to say that there is a speed limit of 30mph on this stretch of road at all! And the only 2 signs that are visible are the 40mph and the no restrictions signs. It is not in the town and on a country road and having seen the No restrictions sign it’s a wonder more people don’t drive at 70 mph there as it’s very misleading! There is a sign on the Pye Green stretch of that Road to say there are speed cameras operating….and its covered up by foliage and NOT visible!
Now……what was someone doing perched on that particular spot ?..... for easy pickings? Guess what?.........The man who clocked me was NOT a Policeman, but a civilian employed to just raise revenue and convictions! And worse still, he is working to targets and commission! So...If his target doesnt look like its going to be achieved, lets stand under a 60mph sign and bump up the convictions! There is a whole department created on behalf of the three emergency services to do just do that! And while all this is going on, real crime is soaring and NOT attended with such enthusiasm! Is this legal?
I have driven round the World about 3 times and had a clean licence for over 30 years until I moved to Cannock! In the space of 8 months I have collected 9 points on my licence for very trivial speeds! I have NEVER seen so many speed cameras in such a small space in my life. They are not there for road safety but to raise revenue. On one Road the speed limits change 6 times, so you are never really sure what you’re supposed to be doing! Its there to confuse and disorientate: so that you DO commit a crime as it’s very profitable.
I would like to know:
1. How many people were ‘clocked’ speeding at that point?
2. How many people have lost their licences by going at less than 10mph over the limit?
3. How much revenue has been raised from all this
4. How many people have lost their livelihoods from having their licences taken away from them for trivial offences?
5. How many accidents have been recorded from drivers reacting to speed cameras, changes in zone speeds? I bet those statistics are very well covered up and protected!
When the new speed limit of 20mph comes in…..it will bring a bonanza of new revenue as everyone can then be fined! At 20 mph there will be scores of accidents as its so slow that concentration will be lost. You will be driving in 2nd gear all day as modern cars will not go that slow without stalling, a huge compromise to safety. But then that’s not their concern. Its making money!

Later I will give you some amazing statistics to prove what I am saying and what they DONT want you to know about speeding!
